"I have live off Northcote Road for 6 years and this is the restaurant I keep coming back to. The first time we came here, I was served the wrong dish but after having a rather large argument with the waiter (I happen to be allergic to prawns so would never have ordered a marinara) I received my spaghetti vongole - and what a spaghetti it was! I have now been back to the restaurant about 30 times, and have never experienced bad service again. In fact, generally the guys are very friendly and welcoming. I even had my pre-wedding dinner here. The mains, pastas and desserts are all excellent - my favourites being the veal dishes, the wild boar pappardelle (which must be eaten to be believed), and of course the spaghetti vongole. Their tira mi su is a knockout. Do yourself a favour - go!"

"Having eaten at this restaurant for the last 10 years i have never once experienced bad service. when a restaurant is busy, sure they probably dont have time for a friendly chat. It's busy for a reason - its probably one of the best Italian restaurants in the country"

Emma said on 28th February ... "I really like this place- we have gone there quite a few times for dinner. The food is always good. The staff are... typical italians! They tell you how you should have your food! I wanted to have parmesan with a particular dish (cant remember now) and I was told in Italy they dont do it that way... I said I didnt care, I wanted parmesan, so the guy just shrugged and got the parmesan- it was funny, gave the place character I thought! We have never had a bad meal here! I definitely recommend it!"

Anon said on 06th January ... "I have to say I'd agree. The food was excellent, can't complain at all. But the service was dire - it was hard to get the attention of the satff, and when we did there was little attempt to be helpful, and certainly no sign of a smile. They were busy, but in my book that's no excuse. It's not just about the food but the whole dining experience and I don't like to be made to feel like I'm putting anyone out by a simple request."

DLK said on 07th July ... "As ever, the food was wonderful. My linguine with lobster was perfectly and lightly seasoned, with huge chunks of in-the-shell lobster tender and succulent. My companions truffle ravioli equally delightful.
So it is with a heavy heart that I have to report this was perhaps one of the most disappointing meals I have had this year.
The service was abysmal. I accept that the place was busy, but to use this as an excuse to treat your paying customers with disdain, slopping wine across their glasses on the hoof, repeatedly failing to respond to the simplest request with other than a sideways grunt, no eye contact, no smile, no acknowledgement other than as an irritant, and to cap it all, the stare from hell and silent spinning on heels when on paying I tried to explain the lack of tip... sorry Numero Uno, you've lost sight of who pays your bills.
You'd be crazy to eat here until they start to address their awful customer service failings."

James Snodgrass said on 30th March ... ""A proper, family run Italian, this neither rehashes the cliches of MegaChains, nor does it pander to the "modern Italian" cookery made popular by people (like Jamie Oliver) that has little to do with genuine Italian cookery. In a Sainsbury's advert, Jamie Oliver said: "Spag Bol? That's about as Italian as Big Ben." As someone who is half Italian, I would have to disagree with him. I took my (Italian) mother to Numero Uno and had a defining meal in my life. It was nothing fancy or contrived. It was a chopped, rare, fillet stake over oak leaf and rocket with a drizzling of balsamic vinegar. The combinations of ingredients were perfect. My mother was equally impressed by her favourite dish of clam tagliatelle but, as I can't remember the Italian name for it, I won't embarrass myself by trying to name it.""

maggie stirling said on 30th March ... ""Numero Uno proved quite a find for us. Why bother to cross the River when there is such a good Italian restaurant in the heart of Battersea? Behind the unprepossessing facade (no glitzy plate glass) lies the smart, modern dining room of this family-run restaurant that offers a wide traditional menu, home-made pasta, many special dishes and a great pudding trolley. Little wonder local celebrities make a bee-line for this restaurant and one is even lucky enough to have a dish named in her honour!
Four of us had a superb lunch - the home-made raviolis, great osso bucco and the dark chocolate profiteroles merit a special mention. Two courses all round, plus only two puddings we could not manage more as in this restaurant portions are larger than the customary few bites and a couple of bottles of good Chianti came to around ?130.
Good food, great value and impeccable service - what more can one ask? On reflection I am not sure whether it is a good idea to recommend so highly somewhere I would like to keep to myself.""
