Ace Fusion

Features: Vegetarian Dishes, Cuisine: Caribbean
Nearest Transport: Clapham Junction / National Railway

A fusion of African, Caribbean and English cuisine that represents the cultural background of the owners.

This laid-back restaurant was opened in December 2007 by Femi Solomon-Cooper and Sharon Akintunde. It showcases a fusion of Caribbean, African and English food. Beware of the Ace Fusion rum punch, though — it’s delicious but lethal. Femi will greet you wearing one of the headdresses she has collected from years of taking part in the Carnivals from Notting Hill to Trinidad!"

When compared to most other West Indian restuarants in London, this one is a very much a neighbourhood restaurant. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. My favourite dish here is the Jollof Rice a West African side served with plantain and goat curry, washed down with the House Rum Punch.

We felt like we'd struck gold when we discovered this little nugget on St John's Hill. There are not many places in London that you will get the kind of service Femi and Sharon bestow on their customers at ACE. There were two birthday parties there, having an absolute ball, and though we had nothing particular to celebrate ourselves, it was an unexpected slice of carnival which left us happy happy happy.

What's more, the food is delicious - the chicken wings were enormous and utterly delicious in the ACE spicy sauce. We also had Creole Cod, Jerk Chicken and Mango Chicken, all of which were summarily despatched. Lots of cold Red Stripe and rum punch washed it down and we staggered home thoroughly pleased with ourselves.

Yes, I really want to know why this great little place has closed. It was definitely the best restaurant in the area!

This place is a gem. Great place for Sunday lunch. They really know how to do beef. But it's the fresh fish and eye for interesting seasonal vegetables that make it an all round local hero. One of those places where you feel the chef really cares passionately about the ethics of great food, as well as it's flavour. Even the quirky layout of the building, which has defeated the last 2 restaurants on this site, seems to fit in now.
