Clapham Picturehouse

Converted from a former snooker hall, the three screen Clapham Picturehouse opened its doors to the public in December 1992. In 1998 a fourth screen was added and the licensed cafe-bar was extended to meet its ever-growing popularity as a local haunt.

With an eclectic programming mix of arthouse and quality mainstream films, an art exhibition area, fortnightly film quiz, Saturday morning Kids Club, Thursday Parents and Babies Club and Sunday repertory double bills to offer, the Clapham Picturehouse has established itself as a cultural landmark in the local community.

Kid’s Club at Clapham Picturehouse

Every Saturday at 11.15am.

Creative activities, fun and games are followed by a children’s film at 11.45am. The Club is suitable for 3 - 10 year olds.

I LOVE CLAPHAM PICTURE HOUSEyou feel like you're not in london and you're somewhere else far superior in terms of imagination... why the hell shoudn't you have seats which lean back in the cinema? why shouldn't you be able to take your bloody mary into the film? why shouldn't you have mixed nuts rather than popcorn? and why shouldn't the ceiling have stars in it?At CPH they manage to think outside the box and it makes so much sense, the bar is great fun and they have quiz nights and good music and it is FUN! and friendly, and comfy, and enjoyable- you don't feel like you're a member of the rat race who is victim of some US cinema chain giant buying into the whole commercial package, you feel like you're in paris and you're a person and it's MUCH NICER THAT WAY!

The Picturehouse cinemas are always quality, and the Clapham Picturehouse is no exception. Eschewing the popcorn/big coke mentality of the megaplexes, the Picturehouse goes for a slightly more adult market - yoghurt coated raisins sit alongside the Revells and Minstrels, and you can take your G&T into the film with you. Reasonably priced for London, the deal gets even better once you become a member of the chain (decently priced at 50 for two people for the year), knocking (on average) 1.50 off your ticket, no booking fee, and a discount at the bar - excellent!

A great local cinema with good size screens and comfortable seating, and the added bonus of being able to take your drinks from the bar into the theatre. The only negative is that the last 2 times I have been recently there have been problems with the sound during the performance. Hopefully these have been sorted as it I would highly recommend this otherwise.
